Furniture care – tips and valuable tips. You have invested in your dream furniture – perfectly suited to your taste, solid and functional. You probably found this article because you are wondering how to take care of them so that they serve you as long as possible. You’ve come to the right place – we have some proven tips for you that are not only effective, but also very easy to implement. One of the most important elements of caring for wood is its preservation, and this process is of multiple importance, as it protects the furniture against superficial damage and affects the results.
visual – emphasizes the color, brings out the beauty of the grain, protects against fading and makes it easier to keep clean. We choose between wax, varnish and oil. It all depends on what the material was originally secured with – this information can be obtained from the manufacturer.
We carry out maintenance treatments every few months. It is very important to choose high-quality products for this purpose and strictly follow the recommendations on the label – only then can we be sure of a satisfactory effect. We apply the preservative only to a well-cleaned surface. We clean the furniture using a professional product dedicated to this activity, placed on a soft microfiber cloth, which we wipe the surfaces in the direction of the grain. Wipe the precipitated dirt with a separate, clean microfiber. If the furniture is very dusty, it is worth vacuuming it first with a delicate broom or a vacuum cleaner with the appropriate furniture tip attached.

Oiled furniture
We apply the oil along the jars using a soft roller or a brush, repeat the activity 2-3 times with intervals of about one hour. We apply quite a lot of oil (working on small pieces), because the excess will soak into the wood, and what may remain on the surface after an hour can be wiped off with a cloth. It is worth adding that, for example, living room furniture that is not
excessively exposed to the harmful effects of external factors, such as moisture or UV radiation, we can protect it with good quality cooking oil – rapeseed or coconut. In the kitchen and in the bathroom, we recommend the use of professional wood oils, as they contain antifungal and anti-parasitic ingredients. Furniture that we have “recycled” or those that we simply did not care for before, it is worth sanding with fine-grained sandpaper to open the pores of the wood and facilitate the absorption of oil and remove any scratches and unevenness.
Waxed furniture
We can wax furniture with both specialized synthetic and natural preparations – e.g. beeswax. Regardless of the choice of specificity, you must not forget the principle that we apply two thin layers instead of one thicker one. Just like in the case of oiling, we work in fragments, in circular movements, thoroughly rubbing the wax into a specific place with a soft cloth. Finally, the entire piece of furniture is polished along the grain.
Lacquered furniture
When choosing a product for preserving varnished furniture, it is worth paying attention to what finish it provides, because we will use a different agent to obtain a matte surface, and a different one, if we want a deep glow. We apply the preparation with a cloth, carefully but gently. We work calmly, on small fragments of the surface. Finally, the furniture should be wiped with microfiber to get rid of any excess product, and in the case of shiny surfaces, we can try to polish.
Regardless of the method of maintenance, it is worth remembering a few basic rules
- we avoid placing furniture near heat sources – radiators, fireplaces, stoves. In case of
under floor heating, the furniture can be insulated with felt pads. - moisture is also not an ally for wooden furniture, so it is important to avoid it
splashes, soaking. The flooded surfaces should be immediately dried with an absorbent
cloth or kitchen towel. It is also worth taking care of proper ventilation in the rooms
such as kitchen or bathroom, and the appropriate room temperature between 20-25 degrees. - we make sure not to put any hot objects on the furniture – cups, pots, but also to anything else
things that could scratch the surface. It is worth covering the table in the dining room with a tablecloth so as not to
scratched when moving plates or cups. A good solution is also table runners on which we put photo frames or travel souvenirs. - the current cleaning of the furniture is carried out using a delicate duster and
a slightly (!) microfiber cloth moistened with water. We should forget about the use of strengths
detergents, especially such as washing up liquid. If we want antistatic properties
a good solution will be to ask a seller who is familiar with the subject in the store to be a professional
furniture cleaner.
